The University of California at Davis also offers a master's degree in healthcare informatics. The faculty at UC-Davis teach the curriculum from a variety of perspectives. Participating faculty members come from the schools of medicine, engineering, health sciences and nursing. The program requires 43 credit hours for completion, including a master's degree thesis. Courses offered as part of the program include clinical databases knowledge management, telemedicine, principles of health informatics and medical decision support systems. Walden University offers another option for a degree in healthcare informatics for those who need to pursue a bachelor's degree in the field. Walden offers a bachelor of science degree in computer information systems with a concentration in healthcare informatics. Like many of its degree programs, Walden University's healthcare informatics program is offered entirely online. The university's programs are regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, giving them the same viability in the job market as degrees offered on-campus through more traditional schools. The Walden program takes about four and a half years to complete. Courses include healthcare information systems applications, information security and privacy, patient records practice and policy, and structure of the healthcare industry. Courses in computer information systems are also required, such as information technology infrastructure, database management systems, object-oriented design and information systems project management.
