X-Ray Technician Programs

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, it is expected that hospitals will remain the primary employer of x-ray technicians, sometimes called radiologic technologists, though many new jobs are also expected in diagnostic imaging centers and doctors' offices. As job opportunities in radiology continue to grow, so does interest in the career field. Aspiring x-ray technicians have a variety of educational opportunities.
  1. Mount San Antonio College

    • Nestled in Walnut, California, approximately 25 miles east of Los Angeles is Mount San Antonio College. The college offers a full-time associate of applied science degree in radiologic technology. The program is four semesters in length and includes classes in three summer sessions as well. A total of seven clinical rotations, in which students have the opportunity to practice skills learned in the classroom, are included in the program. In order to be considered for acceptance to the program, applicants must have earned a high school diploma or GED and completed chemistry and algebra classes at the college level.

    Apollo College

    • Apollo College, a private school with campuses across the nation, offers a full-time radiologic technologist program at its Phoenix, Arizona campus. Students with no prior experience or training in radiology can enroll in the college's associate program. Students wishing to pursue their studies online and currently possess an associate's degree may pursue the college's bachelor's degree in medical imaging.

    Houston Community College

    • Houston Community College's Coleman College for Health Sciences, located in Houston, Texas, offers a full-time, two-year associate of applied science degree in radiography. Students learn about how x-rays work and how to utilize radiography properly and safely. Upon completion of the classroom portion of training, students partake in clinical rotations in the Houston area to practice the skills, including using the radiographic equipment and properly positioning patients, that they have learned.
