Drexel University is one of the leading colleges in the state of Pennsylvania for distance education. Drexel offers a variety of online degree programs, one of which is the online bachelor's degree in education. This Bachelor of Science degree is offered as part of a degree completion program. Students can finish their bachelor's degree in about 2 1/2 years, depending upon the previous college experience of the student. This program offers students the opportunity to receive certification in early childhood education for the state of Pennsylvania. Those living outside Pennsylvania can take the program without receiving certification. Students take courses in various areas such as principles of communication, early language development, current research in curriculum and instruction, inclusionary practices for exceptional students and special education foundations.

Geneva College, located in Beaver Falls, also offers a degree completion program for adult students. This program, specifically designed for working adults, is an accelerated program that offers courses in 11 locations throughout the state, including the Pittsburgh metro area. Classes are set up in a "hybrid" format, taken partially online and partially on-site. Students attend class one night per week for a four-hour class session; classes last five weeks. The accelerated nature of the program allows students to receive their degrees in about 17 months. Geneva offers four different degrees as part of its degree completion program: human services, organizational development and human resources. As a private Christian college, Geneva offers a degree in community ministry as its fourth degree option.

Albright College in Reading also offers an accelerated degree completion program. Albright College is a private Christian college affiliated with the Methodist church. Students entering the degree completion program must be 23 years of age, have five years of documented work experience and 48 or more credit hours that can be transferred into the program. Albright will consider work experience as possible college credit. Classes are offered in five- to seven-week formats, one night per week. Albright College offers bachelor's degrees in various fields as part of the degree completion program: information systems and management, accounting, applied psychology/organizational behavior, business administration, information systems and criminal justice.
