Spokane Community College offers an accredited program for respiratory care. Graduates will receive an Associate of Applied Science degree. Prerequisite classes include math, chemistry and four biology courses. After completing prerequisites students will take core degree classes for seven quarter terms. Classes include respiratory care fundamentals, electrophysiology, fundamentals of spirometry and blood gas analysis, advanced cardiac life support and current trends in respiratory care.

Highline Community College offers an accredited Associate of Applied Science degree program for respiratory care. The program requires a total of 81 credit hours of degree coursework and 30 credit hours of prerequisite and supporting classes. Prerequisite classes include English, biology, general psychology and life span psychology. Core coursework includes therapeutic modalities, respiratory care science, pathophysiology, advances in pulmonary medicine and community-based respiratory care. The program is available for full-time students only. Students must be CPR certified to be admitted to the program.

Tacoma Community College offers a respiratory therapist program that results in an Associate of Applied Science degree. Students admitted to the program must be CPR certified and have completed a seven-hour AIDS education class. Between 108 and 112 credit hours are needed to complete the degree. Prerequisite classes include math, biology and psychology. Requirements also include 94 hours of core classes. Those include respiratory therapy equipment, arterial blood gases, pulmonary functions, advanced mechanical ventilation, and pediatric and neonatal respiratory care. Additional classes required for graduation can include multicultural communication, PowerPoint and medical terminology.

Seattle Central Community College has a full-time program in respiratory care. Graduates will receive an Associate in Applied Science degree after completing 111 credit hours of classes during seven quarter terms. Degree coursework includes pharmacology and pathophysiology for respiratory care; cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology; and respiratory care for critically ill adults, infants and children. Students will also take their classroom knowledge and apply it in real settings during clinical practice courses. Additional supporting classes include psychology and English.
