The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center offers a two-year graduate degree program in athletic training. Students can hold a bachelor's degree in any field, but they are required to complete prerequisite courses prior to enrollment. Students must also have 50 hours of athletic training experience that can be earned through volunteering, shadowing, or working with a licensed athletic trainer. Graduation from the program requires completion of 59 credit hours in courses such as pharmacology, biomechanics and human anatomy. The curriculum also consists of clinical experience, research and seminars.

The Master of Science in Athletic Training at the University of North Carolina is offered through its Department of Kinesiology. This entry-level graduate program requires completion of prerequisite courses and a 200-hour minimum of clinical experience and/or observation under a certified athletic trainer prior to enrollment. Students complete a minimum of 48 credit hours in lectures and labs. Students also gain clinical experience at high schools, colleges and rehabilitation centers.

The University of Tennessee Chattanooga athletic training program can be completed in two years. Prior to enrollment, students must have completed prerequisite courses as well as have CPR certification. Students in the program will complete 60 credit hours of coursework and gain clinical experience. The clinical experience component introduces students to a variety of patients including male and female athletes from a variety of sports and the general population receiving physical therapy and orthopaedic services.
