Graduate Athletic Training

Graduate programs in athletic training allow students to obtain either a master's degree or Ph.D. in athletic training. These programs prepare students to work in consultation with physicians to prevent and treat sports-related injuries.
  1. Requirements

    • To pursue a graduate degree in athletic training, you must first obtain a bachelor degree. Whether your bachelor degree must be in a related field varies by institution, as do minimum grade point average and minimum scores on the Graduate Record Exam.

    Choosing a School

    • Look for athletic training programs that are properly accredited such as by recognized educational boards, the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education or the National Athletic Trainers' Association. Also look for schools with a high percentage of graduates working in athletic training fields and that provide plenty of opportunity for hands-on experience.

    Careers

    • Many careers are available to those who successfully complete graduate work in athletic training. Professional sports organizations, college athletic programs and sports training facilities employ athletic trainers.
