The University of Texas at Austin, ranked as the No.1 athletic training school in the 2010 US News and World Report findings, offers students a Bachelor of Science in athletic training. This four-year program includes a combination of course study and clinical work. Courses will prepare students for careers in sports medicine and physical therapy, and work as athletic trainers in high school, college, or professional settings. During their clinical practice, students will work in the field with experienced trainers in venues such as area high schools, clinics and the University of Texas athletic program. Students will gain on the job training with actual patients to learn the skills necessary to be considered proficient as an athletic trainer.

The athletic training program provides students with theoretical education through course work and professional preparation through clinical training. The emphasis on the course of study is in the area of applied and basic bioscience. Through course work and clinical practice, students will gain experience in risk management and injury prevention, injury pathology, acute care in injury, therapeutic exercise and modalities, health care administration and nutritional aspects of injury. Students will gain clinical practice in a variety of settings including high school, college and local health care institutions.
