Penn State's Commonwealth Campus in the Lehigh Valley--which is known as Penn State Lehigh Valley--is the only public four-year college or university in the region. Penn State Lehigh Valley was Penn State's first branch campus; founded in 1912, the campus now offers three associate degree programs, five bachelor's degree programs and the first two years of more than 160 other majors, which can be completed by transferring to Penn State's flagship University Park campus in State College, Pennsylvania. In 2009, Penn State Lehigh Valley officially moved from Fogesville to a new campus in Center Valley, just outside Allentown, Pennsylvania. The college also operates a center for continuing education classes in Bethlehem.
