Antelope Valley College, a two-year public institute, awards certificates and associate's degrees in a wide range of programs. Students can study agriculture, business management, communications technology, construction trades, education, engineering, health professions, liberal and performing arts, sciences, languages and mechanic and repair technology. Established in 1929, AVC has a satellite campus of California State University, known as Bakersfield-Antelope Valley, located on site. Upper division and graduate programs are offered through this satellite school at AVC. The college also has a campus site in Palmdale, California which is south of Lancaster.

Courses at the Career Care Institute are completed in nine to 14 months; and students are awarded certificates from this private college. Programs of study include allied health and medical assisting services, dental assistant, licensed practical nurse, massage therapy, medical insurance coding specialist and limited x-ray technician. A vocational training institute for medical professionals that was established in 1998, CCI has branches in Ventura and Moreno Valley, California, as well as Lancaster.

Lancaster Beauty School, founded in 1960, is a private institute that awards certificates in less than two years. Programs offered include trade and industrial teacher education, aesthetics, barbering, cosmetology and manicuring. LBS provides dozens of cosmetology services to the public at a greatly discounted rate; for example a hair cut costs $3.50 in 2010. The campus has designated areas for the different student levels and programs, as well as a lounge, patio, library and facial room.

A four-year private college, the University of Antelope Valley awards certificates, associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees. Students can study health professions, legal assisting, culinary arts, business management, accounting, graphic design, emergency management services, fire science, criminal justice or law enforcement administration at UAV. Formerly known as Antelope Valley Medical College, which was established in 1997, UAV was accredited in 2009 to provide degree-level educational programs. The mission of this university, as stated on the UAV website, is to strengthen the local community through education.
