Programs for Human Resources

Human resource degree programs prepare students for professional positions pertaining to the workplace and employee relations. Coursework and training focuses on leadership skills for human services and personnel management with an emphasis on core skills such as strategic thinking and analysis. Schools across the country offer bachelors and masters degree programs to students entering this profession and workers already employed in the human resource field. Some programs can be completed online.

    • Saint Leo University has a bachelor's degree in human resource management that can be completed online. Courses such as risk management, human resource development are at the core of the program, which also includes training in interviewing and counseling skills. Interested students must submit an application, all official transcripts, ACT or SAT scores and a recommendation letter from a counselor or dean of students. Applicants should have a 2.3 grade point average and score at least 900 on the SAT or 19 on the ACT scores to be considered for admission into the program. Students who successfully complete the program at St. Leo will be prepared to take the Professional in Human Resource Certification exam.

    University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

    • The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has a masters program in human resource education. This program teaches students through hands-on training in the areas of technical skills instruction, management training, basic skills remediation, performance improvement and general education. These concepts are designed to produce researchers, trainers, instructional technologists, organizational consultants and instructional designers. To complete degree requirements, candidates must write and defend a thesis. Interested candidates need to submit an application, a personal statement about career goals, three reference letters and a resume. Applicants should also have a 3.0 grade point average on all junior and senior level undergraduate coursework.

    Villanova University

    • Villanova University has a masters program in human resource development that is completed online in two years. This program focuses on global, strategic and developmental issues to give students a foundation in human resources. Students are trained in planning, international human resources, organizational change, organizational training, compensation and project management. The training with this program is designed to benefit staffing specialist, benefits analysts, corporate trainers, human resource generalist, recruiters and mangers. Interested candidates must hold a bachelors degree, have a 3.0 grade point average, have three recommendations letters from colleagues in the human resource field. They must submit a resume and a 500-word essay outlining their relevant work experience and career goals.
