The Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University offers a Ph.D. in Labor and Human Resources. Areas of focus within the program include industrial relations, historical and contemporary issues in human resources and organizational behavior. The program teaches within the range of topics from both the employer's and the worker's perspective. Utilizing social science as a foundation for study, the faculty conducts and emphasizes research into how managerial systems impact labor relations. This social science foundation is emphasized throughout a 30-week seminar that all first year students take. Students then take a more advanced seminar during the first semester of their second year. This seminar helps them narrow their research interests. Much of the program has be designed to mirror the British doctoral degree system where much of the learning takes place outside of the classroom under the tutelage of a faculty mentor.
