The Department of Plant and Soil Science at Texas Tech University College offers a 15-credit graduate certificate in horticultural landscape management through online learning. Students may pursue this program as a stand alone credential or in conjunction with a master's degree. A bachelor's degree and must submit a statement of interest is required for entry into the program. Students may study on a full time or part time basis. Course topics include arboriculture, weed science, pesticides, nursery management, herbicide mechanisms, plant nutrients, soil science and administrative skills for landscape architecture. A grade of "C" or better must be maintained throughout this program.

The University of Massachusetts at Amherst offers an online certificate program in urban landscape and garden development. This program focuses on sustainable design methods and techniques within public and private urban environments. Coursework includes introductory urban landscape, plant materials, open space in urban settings and urban landscape design. Students may choose from a variety of electives courses, including energy issues, water management, computer applications, project management and the history of land usage. A hands-on internship is also required.
