Located in South Royalton, Vermont Law School has been at the forefront of the industry since 1978 and is the only program of its kind. Its Master of Laws (LLM) program was developed for post-JD attorneys and prepares you to work in public, nonprofit and private sector organizations. The program covers important topics such as climate change, energy, pollution prevention and land use. With this specialized program you can practice environmental law and policy making. Requirements are a JD from an American Bar Association-approved law school, two essays and letters of recommendation, official transcripts from your previous school and a professional resume. The application fee is a nonrefundable $60. The school's faculty members are leading scholars and advocates in the field, and the program is 18 months long, resulting in 30 credits. The program has also been named "number one" 13 times by "U.S.News & World Report" since 1991.
Kaplan's Bachelor of Science in Environmental Policy and Management program focuses on understanding environmental policy making and working with organizations to put those policies in effect. The BA requirements are a high school diploma or GED. The school's Master of Science in Environmental Policy program provides more of an in-depth look at how government agencies, institutions, lawmakers, businesses and other organizations respond to global issues. It is more project-oriented and specialized than the BS degree. All that is required is a BA degree from an accredited college. The University of Illinois offers an online master's degree in environmental studies. To be accepted for the online degree, you must have completed a 300 level or above ecology course with lab grades of a B or higher.
