Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), a private university founded in Massachusetts in 1865, was one of the first technology universities to open in the United States. WPI offers an online Master of Science in Environmental Engineering program, which typically takes 24 months to complete. Students in the program have two degree choices, including a thesis degree option and a non-thesis degree option. Students who choose to complete a thesis are required to take 30 credit hours of engineering courses, six of which are thesis hours. Those students who choose a non-thesis option are required to take 33 credit hours. Online courses are delivered on an asynchronous schedule, giving students the freedom to learn from home whenever they choose. Lectures are recorded on campus in WPI classrooms and streamed online for student viewing.
