As of 2010, Stanford University enrolls 6,260 undergraduate and 4,762 graduate students. Stanford's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering was named as the best in the nation in both 2004 and 2009 by the Environmental Engineering League, and offers multiple programs for both undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate programs focus on environmental engineering, civil engineering, architectural design, and renewable energy. The graduate program focuses on sustainable construction, fluid mechanics and hydrology, and geomechanics. The graduate school offers Masters of Science and doctoral degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering, as well as an Engineer in Civil and Environmental Engineering degree.
As of 2009, the University of Illinois campus at Urbana and Champaign enrolled approximately 30,000 undergraduate and 10,000 graduate students. Urbana-Champaign's department of Civil and Environmental engineering provides a variety of interest areas under the civil engineering major, including construction, geotechnical engineering, hydraulics, and structural engineering. The graduate program offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering, environmental engineering and environmental science. The graduate program also offers sub-specialties in information technology, construction materials and transportation engineering.
The University of California's Berkeley has two programs for those interested in environmental engineering: Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Environmental Design. The CEE focuses on transportation engineering, geo-engineering and infrastructure; the environmental design program focuses on environmentally-friendly architecture, city planning and urban design. Prospective students may obtain M.S. or doctoral degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering, as well as a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.), and complimentary degrees to the Master in Architecture, City and Regional Planning, and Public Policy degrees. The CED offers a Bachelor of the Arts, M.S., and Ph.D. in Architecture, as well as the Master in Architecture and Master of Arts in Design degrees.
MIT is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and as of the 2010-2011 academic year, it teaches approximately 4,000 undergraduate and 6,000 graduate students. MIT's Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering accepts roughly 100 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. Undergraduate students can pursue degrees in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering Science, and Civil and Environmental Engineering. The graduate programs offer doctoral degrees, and master's degrees in engineering and transportation. Other master's degrees include include coastal engineering, environmental microbiology, hydroclimatology, geomechanics, and mechanics of materials and structures.
