The University of North Carolina Online system connects 16 separate state institutions to offer a wide range of undergraduate and graduate online degree programs. Through the University of North Carolina at Charlotte's William States Lee College of Engineering and the Department of Engineering Technology, this online system offers an online Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology degree program. Students in this 2-year program can transfer up to 64 credit hours of general education courses from another accredited college and can complete all of the core engineering technology classes online. Courses are offered on an asynchronous (archived) schedule, giving students the flexibility to log in and learn whenever they choose.

Ferris State University, located in Big Rapids, Michigan, offers an online Bachelor of Science in HVACR Engineering Technology. Students are required to complete 31 credit hours of general education courses along with 30 credit hours of core HVACR engineering technology courses. Students who take general education courses through a different institution can transfer them to the Ferris State University engineering program. The program delivers lectures (which are recorded on campus) on an asynchronous schedule, giving students the freedom to log in and learn whenever they choose. Students have online access to illustrations, assignments and student support services. The program, which is part-time, is intended for students who already have industry experience.
