Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis offers an Associate of Science in dental hygiene and a Bachelor of Science in public health dental hygiene. Instruction takes place in classrooms, labs and clinical settings. The associate program takes two years to complete after students complete prerequisites. Prerequisites include English, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, sociology and psychology. Dental courses for the associate degree include periodontics, oral anatomy and pathology, radiology, dental materials, preventive dentistry, pharmacology and therapeutics. Those interested in the associate program must fill out an application, submit transcripts from any previous college experience, complete at least eight hours observing a dental hygienist at work and complete the college's dental hygiene orientation session. Students interested in the bachelor's degree program must have completed an associate level dental hygiene program, taken and passed the National Board Dental Hygiene Exam and have a current dental hygiene license. Students in the bachelor's program will complete 32 additional hours of coursework including advanced community dental hygiene and dental science.

Ivy Tech Community College in Anderson offers a two-year Associate of Science in dental hygiene. Students will receive classroom, lab and clinical instruction and practice.
