Los Angeles Trade-Technical College is a public, two-year institution with more than 38,000 full- and part-time students. The school grants certificates and associate of arts degrees in fashion design and fashion merchandising. Both programs require roughly two years of full-time study to complete, but the certificate course only requires students to take classes in fashion. Degree-seeking students also take academic classes in subjects like English or mathematics. The full-time programs meet during daylight hours. The college also offers an evening and weekend program that does not grant degrees, but provides courses in sample making, patterning, gown draping and fashion sketching. Students in the full-time programs produce a fashion show annually, displaying creations of design majors. Eligible students can receive federal grants and loans, veteran's benefits, work-study opportunities and institutional scholarships. An on-campus day care provides child care for students' children. Job placement assistance is available.
