Conway, Arkansas Colleges

Located in Faulkner County, Conway, Arkansas, is 24 miles northwest of North Little Rock, and 141 miles east of Memphis, Tennessee. As of July 2009, the school had a population of more than 59,000 residents, according to the City-Data website. Due to its size, Conway has become a center for education. The town is home to a number of colleges, ranging from public institutions to private schools affiliated with religious denominations.
  1. University of Central Arkansas

    • Founded in 1907, the University of Central Arkansas is a public institution with more than 12,900 undergraduate and graduate students. In 2010, the college received the 45th-place ranking among all universities with master's degree programs in the southern United States from "U.S. News and World Report." The highest-rated academic programs at the college are its education, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, nuclear medical technology, business administration, insurance and risk management and finance degrees, according to the "2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges." The college offers for-credit internships and paid cooperative work placements in many majors. Study abroad programs are also available. In addition to federal and state financial aid programs, the University of Central Arkansas offers a limited number of work-study placements. The college sponsors 17 intercollegiate and 35 intramural sports teams for men and women. Twenty Greek fraternities and sororities have chapters on the campus. More than 150 student groups and organizations are available for student participation.

    Central Baptist College

    • The Baptist Missionary Association of Arkansas founded Central Baptist College in Conway in 1952. The private college has an enrollment of approximately 625 students. The college offers bachelor's degrees in religious fields like Biblical studies, church music, leadership and ministry and missions. Secular baccalaureate programs are also offered, including psychology, management, marketing, health sciences, biotechnology and biology. Associate degrees in education and business are also available. In addition to the traditional classroom-based format, courses are offered online and through long-distance written correspondence. Eligible students can receive federal and state loans and grants, institutional scholarships, veteran's benefits and work-study placements while studying at Central Baptist College. The school has 11 sports teams and 12 student organizations on campus.

    Hendrix College

    • With an undergraduate enrollment of more than 1,300 students, Hendrix College is a private institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The school received the 80th-place ranking among all liberal arts colleges in the United States in 2010 from "U.S. News and World Report." Among the top-rated programs at the college are biology, psychology and religion. The college features internships in all majors. Approximately 99 percent of all students at Hendrix receive some form of financial aid, reports the "2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges." The college is home to 19 intercollegiate and 24 intramural sports teams. Sixty-five student groups are located on campus.
