Both the University of Arkansas and Arkansas State have several associated community colleges. They offer classes optimized for transfer to their respective four-year schools. Community College at Batesville, Community College at Hope, Community College at Morrilton, Cossatot Community College and Phillips Community College are associated with the University of Arkansas, while the Beebe, Mountain Home and Newport campuses of Arkansas State are all two-year schools.
Several colleges specialize in technical subjects, such as nursing, multimedia technology, industrial technologies and other fields that rely on specialized technical knowledge. Ouachita Technical College, Black River Technical College, Pulaski Technical College and Southern Arkansas University Technical Branch all offer these types of degrees and certificates.
Arkansas has a number of other schools for the two-year student. Arkansas Northeastern College, East Arkansas Community College, Mid-South Community College, National Park Community College, North Arkansas College, Northwest Arkansas Community College, Ozarka College, Rich Mountain Community College, South Arkansas Community College and Southeast Arkansas College are all accredited two-year schools.
To ease the difficulty of finding out which courses will transfer to which university, the Arkansas Department of Higher Education has a system that will identify all classes from community and junior colleges that will transfer to state schools. This can help two-year students figure out the public university where they will have to repeat the fewest classes.
