Review basic APA form for periodicals, which begins with the authors being listed by their last names followed by their first initials. Publication year for the work goes between parentheses, followed by a period. Only the first word and proper nouns in the title are capitalized within the title, a technique referred to as title case. The title of the periodical title is also written in title case, and is followed by the volume number. The periodical title and volume number are both italicized.
Use the following format if you're citing a journal that continues numbering its pages from volume to volume, so it's considered to be paginated by volume:
Lastname, F. I. (2010). Fast twitch muscles in basketball. Journal of Competitive and Applied Physiology, 92, 1000-1010.
Use the following format if you're citing a journal that starts from page one, so it's considered to be paginated by issue:
Lastname, F. I. (2010). Neurons and concussions in football. Journal of Neurology, 12 (55), 20-38.
Cite magazine articles as follows:
Lastname, F. I., (2010 Jan 1). The most dangerous contact sports. Sports Incorporated, 10, 35-45.
Cite newspaper articles as follows:
Lastname, F. (2005, December 28). Refs mistakes lead to injuries. The Atlanta Underground, p. 4A.
Note that if the article used as a reference is contained on a single page, like the example above, it's denoted with a "p." If the reference is to an article that has multiple pages, it should be denoted by "pp."
Use the following basic style for referring to a webpage (Author, followed by date of publication, then the publication site and its URL):
Lastname, F. (2010) Concussions in contact sports. The American Association of Head Trauma. www.aaht.org
