How to Cite Two Author Names in MLA Form

MLA guidelines are the common citation style used in the humanities and liberal arts. The MLA format uses the "author and page" style of citation whereby the author (or authors) and a page number (or numbers) are cited whenever the author's work is referenced. MLA style guidelines also offer guidance on how to cite a work when there are multiple authors -- in this case two. By following the proper citation style, you can credit your sources in a widely accepted academic format.

Instructions

    • 1

List both authors' last names in the text and include the page number of the source material in parentheses. For example: "Bradley and Rogers suggested... (149)."

    • 2

List both authors' last names in the text in parentheses along with the page number of the source material if you are referencing their ideas but prefer to enclose the author names in parentheses. For example: "The authors argue that... (Bradley and Rogers 149)."

    • 3

Cite the authors, the name of the work, the publisher and location, and the publication date in your "Works Cited" list at the end of your paper. The first author is listed with his last name first followed by a comma, his first name followed by a comma, followed by "and," followed by the first name of the second author, followed by the last name and a period.

    • 4

Add the title of the book in italics followed by a period and the edition used. Add the publication city followed by a colon, the name of the publisher followed by a comma, year of publication followed by a period and the medium of publication that you consulted, also followed by a period. For example: "Cross, Susan, and Christine Hoffman. Bruce Nauman: Theaters of Experience. New York: Guggenheim Museum; London: Thames & Hudson, 2004. Print."
