The film studies course offered by the University of Oklahoma has a focus on film theory and history, but graduate careers in production are possible. Coursework ranges from film movements such as neorealism to the work of individual film directors. A degree in filmmaking, photography, and video is also offered and teaches students the skills to create work on digital video and 16-mm film. Students are encouraged to take-up internships at film companies in Los Angeles, New York or locally in Oklahoma, and there is a Student Film Production Club on campus that allows students to gain hands-on filmmaking experience.
