Albany, New York Colleges

Albany is New York's capital city. It has a long history, starting with its settlement by the Dutch in 1624. Though best known for politics and lake effect snow, Albany is also home to several colleges and universities that offer everything from professional certificates and associate's degrees to doctoral programs.
  1. Professional Training

    • Albany is home to a number of professional training schools. The Albany College of Pharmacy offers undergraduate degrees and a master's degree in health systems management. The Albany Law School is strictly a graduate-level law school, although it partners with local school for joint degree programs. The Albany Medical College offers a medical degree and master of science in physician assisting and nurse anesthesiology. The Memorial Hospital School of Nursing offers licensed practical nurse programs and registered nurse programs.

    Two-Year Colleges

    • There are two two-year colleges in Albany. Mildred Elley-Albany offers associate's degrees and certificates in business and technology, digital media, and health and wellness. Maria College offers associate's degrees in applied science, the arts and science. Maria also offers one bachelor's degree program in nursing.

    Traditional Universities

    • Albany universities range from the small, private schools to large, public schools. The Sage Colleges offer a full range of degrees from certificates to doctorates. The College of Saint Rose is a private university offering bachelor's and master's degrees in business, education, humanities and science. The State University of New York-Albany has more than 18,000 students from more than 100 countries, more than 125 undergraduate degree programs and 120 graduate programs.

    Technical Colleges

    • Technical colleges provide a career-focused college alternative, which may or may not offer degrees. Brandford Hall is more than 40 years old and offers certification as a medical assistant or in medical billing. ITT Technical Institute offers bachelor's and master's degrees in information technology, drafting and design, electronics technology, business, health sciences and criminal justice.
