Keystone College is the oldest institution in northeast Pennsylvania; a group of nuns founded it in 1868. It offers a Bachelors of Science in Art Education. Accredited by Middle States Commission on Higher Education, it offers several ways for older students to obtain their degrees, including online and weekend programs.
Accredited by National Association of Schools of Art and Design, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design and National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, Kutztown offers a Bachelor of Science. and a Master in Art Education. As of 2011, the small town contains about 4,500 residents and the college has 10,700 student enrolled.
Mercyhurst offers a Bachelor of Science in Art Education (K-12) at its Erie Campus. As of 2011, the Erie campus has 3,226 students. The college requires that students take more than half of the required art courses at the college and that the education courses be taken in sequence.
Pennstate offers a bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degree programs in Art Education at Penn State's University Park campus. College Art Association (CAA), International Society for Education through Art (InSEA), National Art Education Association (NAEA), National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), National Council of Art Administrators (NCAA) and Pennsylvania Art Education Association (PAEA) accredit the degree program.
You need maintain a clear criminal background throughout your college years as well as provide the required clearances before you step into the classroom. You will complete about 30 hours in the classroom in addition to a semester student teaching. You will do this while completing a challenging course load spread between education and art. Pennsylvania requires at least a 3.0 GPA to graduate with an education degree. Finally, you will complete the Praxis I and II with passing scores. Only then can your Art education degree get you into your own classroom.
