The Rhode Island School of Design offers both graduate and undergraduate degrees in disciplines such as apparel design, painting, photography and illustration. Applications are due by December 15 for the fall semester. New students are not typically accepted during the spring semester, but a student who has completed one semester at a professional art college may be accepted for the spring if an opening occurs. The school is also home to a museum of art. The museum and school were both founded in 1877.

This school offers undergraduate and graduate level degrees in disciplines such as architecture, art education, art history and writing. The school was founded in 1886. Applicants must submit a portfolio of their work in the subject area they wish to study. This portfolio must contain 10 to 15 samples. An SAT score of 500 in verbal or critical reading is required, or a 20 on the English portion of the ACT.
