Lists of Colleges & Univerisites in New Jersey

Although New Jersey is a small state, it has 29 different four-year colleges and universities. One of those colleges, Princeton, is one of the most renowned colleges in the country. Most of the colleges in the state are private; Rutgers remains the only public university system. Berkeley College in New Jersey is one of the only colleges in the state that has an accelerated degree program, and Drew University gets kudos for its high ranking.
  1. Princeton University

    • Princeton University is considered an "Ivy League" institution, and is the fourth-oldest college in the U.S. Princeton only admitted 8.8 percent of applicants in 2010. Princeton students, typically, have excelled academically and shown leadership potential. In 2010, 14.8 percent of admitted students had a 4.0 GPA; most students had earned at least a 3.5 GPA and scored near 700s or above on their SAT reading, math and writing tests. Princeton has a variety of degree programs including atmospheric and oceanic sciences, East Asian art and archaeology, finance, architecture and Slavic studies.

    Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey

    • There are three separate Rutgers campuses -- Camden, New Brunswick and Newark. Each of the Rutgers colleges is a four-year institution and has their own admissions process and requirements. Getting into a Rutgers university is less competitive than Princeton University. In 2010, all three campuses admitted students that earned, on average, between the mid 500s to mid 600s on all three of their SAT tests.

    Berkeley College

    • Berkeley College, located in Newark, is a small liberal arts college. The college offers both bachelor's and associates degrees. A smaller selection of academic programs is available compared to Rutgers or Princeton. Berkeley College offers both bachelor's and associate's degree in business, health services management, interior design and criminal justice. Some of the degree programs offered at Berkeley College are designed for the working student and classes are held in the evening, the weekends or online. Many Berkeley students can complete a four-year degree in three years, and a two-year degree in 18 months. Berkeley college doesn't require applicants to submit their SAT or ACT test score.

    Drew University

    • Drew University is a four-year college located in Madison, New Jersey. It was one of the top 100 liberal arts colleges in 2010, according to U.S. News & World Report. They offer a variety of degree programs including anthropology, computer science, neurosciences and environmental studies. The most popular academic areas include psychology, premed, biology, theater and business. Drew University has a variety of extracurricular clubs and activities for students including a crocheting and knitting society that makes blankets for a battered women's shelter and an on-campus Habitat for Humanity chapter. The class of 2010 was admitted into Drew with a mean GPA of 3.34, and average between the mid 500s to lower 600s on there three SAT tests.
