Colleges or Technical Colleges for Music in South Carolina

Whether students are seeking a musical career or an interesting elective option, many South Carolina colleges offer music instruction. Possible career choices include music education, concert management, private instruction and performance.
  1. University of South Carolina

    • The University of South Carolina offers degree programs from a minor to a doctorate level. The popular Bachelor of Music degree program is offered in composition, piano pedagogy, performance, jazz studies, music theory and music education. Many students complete coursework and continue on to a performance career or teaching.

    Winthrop University

    • Winthrop University's Department of Music offers a variety of degrees in the performance arts. Students pursuing a major in music will need to first audition for the Department of Music before acceptance into a degree program. The school offers bachelor's and master's programs in a variety of majors.

    Columbia Arts Academy

    • The academy is the largest music school in the state, providing lessons on five of the most popular instruments. These include voice, piano, drums, electric and acoustic guitar, and electric bass. This school offers music instruction in structured environment without a degree.

    South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities

    • The school offers both residential high school and summer programs. All students must apply and audition for admission into either program. Auditions are held in various locations around the state to accommodate artists. Summer programs range in duration from two to five weeks and focus on performance arts and/or dance.

    South Carolina State University

    • Locate in Orangeburg, this historically black college offers a variety of degree options for music majors. Offered majors include piano, voice, and instrumental. A bachelor's of arts is also offered with a major in music industry.

    Coker College

    • Coker college offers bachelor's degree programs in music. Music majors must choose from one of the following concentrations: musical theater, voice or piano. Auditions are required before acceptance. A music education major is also offered, as well as music minor options.
