The College of Charleston expects its applicants to have an A or B unweighted GPA. This means high school students should earn at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The admissions committee prefers to see this GPA earned in a rigorous academic curriculum that includes four units of English and math; three units of laboratory science, social science and foreign language; and one unit of physical education, fine arts and an elective.

Wofford College recalculates applicants' GPAs using only academic courses. In addition, students receive an extra grade point for Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate classes. So, a B in an AP or IB class would count as four points, while a B in a non-AP or non-IB class counts as three points. Based on those standards, the average GPA for Wofford incoming freshmen was 3.5 in 2009.
