List the reporter's last name, the date and the page number in the text of your paper. If you use the reporter's name as part of your text, place the year of the article's publication in parenthesis next to her last name, and place the page number in parenthesis at the end of the sentence. For example, "Burns (2009) argues..." (p.19). If you do not use the reporter's last name, list her last name along with the year of publication and page number at the end of the sentence. For example, "Management is defined as..." (Burns, 2009, p.19).
Alter the above format slightly for different types of citations. Omit the page number if you so choose for paraphrases and summaries, though APA recommends you leave it in. Omit quotation marks in quotes over 40 words, and indent the entire text of the quote half an inch from the margin. Place the reporter's name and year, if not included in the text, along with the page number in parenthesis after the period that signifies the end of the quotation.
Create an entry for the "Atlantic" in your reference page. Write the reporter's last name, a comma, her initials, and a period. Next, write the year of publication followed by a comma and the month and day of publication in parenthesis. After the parenthesis, place a period, followed by the title of the article in the "Atlantic," capitalizing only the first letter of the first word of the title. Write "Atlantic," a comma and the issue number all in italics. In normal type, place another comma, and the page range. End the entry with a period.
List the reporter's last name and the page number in parenthesis in the text. If you use the reporter's name in the text, list only the page number, without "p" or any other text, in parenthesis at the end of the summary, paraphrase or quote. For example, Burns argues, "..." (64). If you do not use the reporter's name in the text, list it along with the page number at the end of the summary, paraphrase or quote. For example, "Management is defined as..." (Burns 64).
Indent quotations of more than four lines one inch from the left margin, and do not use quotation marks. Cite the reporter's last name, if not used in the text, and the page number in parenthesis after the final punctuation mark in the quotation.
Create an entry for the "Atlantic" on your works cited page. Write the author's last name, a comma, and her full first name, followed by a period. In quotation marks, write the title of the article, using normal title capitalization. Place a period within the last quotation mark, and write "Atlantic" in italics. Write the day of publication, followed by the abbreviation for the publication month and the numerical year. Place a colon after the year, and write the page range. Place a period, then indicate the medium of publication, in this case, print.
