How to Cite a Page Section in a Paragraph

The two most commonly used citation styles are the Modern Language Association, or MLA, used as a general formatting guide for liberal arts citations, and the American Psychological Association, or APA, used mainly for social sciences. Both styles are for citing sources used in research papers, and each contain specific guidelines for parenthetical citations and resource lists or bibliographies. Whenever a source is used to in-text, you must make a citation at the end of the paragraph.

Add an open parenthesis at the end of the sentence, before the period.

    APA Style

    • 7

Type an open parenthesis, author's last name, a comma, the year of publication, a comma, "p.", the page number, a comma, "sec.", the section or paragraph number and a close parenthesis at the end of the paragraph if the author's name wasn't mentioned within the paragraph.
