State Grants for Wisconsin Residents

The state of Wisconsin offers a number of grants to its residents for attending colleges, universities and technical schools. The Wisconsin Higher Education Aids Board (HEAB) administers the grants. In addition to non-specific grants based solely on financial need, there are grants geared toward minority students and hearing and visually handicapped students.
  1. Wisconsin Higher Education Grant

    • Wisconsin Higher Education Grants range from $250 to $3,000. To be eligible, applicants must be Wisconsin residents, demonstrate financial need and enroll half-time or full-time at the University of Wisconsin, or a tribal college or technical school in Wisconsin. The maximum number of grants is 10 semesters or the equivalent. The application deadline is June 30th.

    Talent Incentive Program Grant

    • The Talent Incentive Program (TIP) assists financially and educationally disadvantaged students attending Wisconsin colleges and universities. TIP grants are available to first-time freshman students. To be eligible, students must request to be nominated by their school's financial aid office or a counselor at the Wisconsin Educational Opportunity Program. Grants are renewable to students that continue to demonstrate financial need. The maximum number of grants is 10 semesters or its equivalent. Initial awards range from $600 to $1,800 and subsequent awards range from $250 to $1,800. The application deadline is June 30th.

    Indian Student Assistance Grant

    • The State of Wisconsin offers grants to Native American state residents through the Indian Student Assistance Grant. To qualify, a student must enroll in a degree program at the University of Wisconsin, a technical college or an independent college or university in Wisconsin. The maximum number of grants is 10 semesters or its equivalent. Grant amounts range from $250 to $1,100 and the application deadline is June 30th. Indian Student Assistance Grants are partially funded by the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs and Wisconsin tribal governments.

    Minority Undergraduate Retention Grant

    • Minority Undergraduate Retention Grants are available to minority Wisconsin residents attending independent colleges and universities, tribal institutions and technical schools in Wisconsin. First-year students and students of the University of Wisconsin system are not eligible. The grant defines an eligible minority student as an individual who is African American, American Indian, Hispanic or Southeast Asian. Grant amounts range from $250 to $2,500 and the application deadline is June 30th.

    Hearing and Visually Handicapped Student Grant

    • The Hearing and Visually Handicapped Student Grant provides funding for Wisconsin residents who demonstrate financial need and have a severe visual or hearing impairment.
