Grants for Students in Michigan

A variety of scholarships and educational grants are available to students pursuing a post-secondary degree in the state of Michigan. Michigan student scholarships come from many sources, including Michigan institutions of higher learning, state and local community foundations, and the Michigan state government. Some Michigan student grants are limited to students pursuing a degree in a specific subject, or to students who reside in a specific area of the state.
  1. GRFC Scholarships

    • The Grand Rapids Community Foundation offers a variety of scholarships to students pursuing a college degree in the state of Michigan. The Audrey L. Wright Scholarship is available to a student who has been a resident of Kent County for at least three years, who has a grade point average of at least 3.0, and who is pursuing a degree in either a foreign language or education. The Dr. Noyes L. Avery, Jr. & Ann E. Avery Scholarship is available to a student who is a three-year resident of Kent County who has a GPA of at least 3.0, can demonstrate financial need, and is pursuing a medical degree at either the undergraduate or graduate level.     Michigan State Scholarships

    • The State of Michigan funds several scholarship programs to assist students attending college in the state. The State of Michigan Merit Scholarship is awarded to Michigan residents based on MEAP High School Test scores; an application is not required. The Michigan Competitive Scholarship is available to undergraduate students who can demonstrate both academic achievement and financial need, who have taken the ACT Test, and who have filled out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid. These scholarships may be used to defray the cost of tuition at both private and public Michigan institutions.     Michigan State University Scholarships

    • Michigan State University makes a variety of scholarships available to its students. The Distinguished Freshman Scholarship is awarded annually to 20 incoming students, and pays for the full cost of tuition and associated fees for eight semesters. The Alumni Distinguished Scholarship Commended Finalist is awarded annually to 30 incoming students, and provides support of $2,500 per semester for eight semesters. MSU Special Merit Scholarships are available in the amount of $2,000 per semester to Michigan residents who are National Merit Finalists. MSU Special Merit Scholarships are also renewable for up to eight semesters.
