State Grants for Alabama

The state of Alabama has several schools, nonprofit organizations, corporations and private donors that generously aspire to help Alabama students pay for their schooling. A quick Internet search generates many different offerings. There are nursing, engineering and science scholarships, to name a few. Listed below are a few grant and scholarship options.
  1. Alabama Student Assistance Program

    • The Alabama Student Assistance Program is a scholarship program officiated by the Alabama state government. The grant is need-based, so students must demonstrate financial need to be eligible. To qualify, they must fill out and submit their Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) form and be an Alabama resident attending one of the 80 eligible Alabama colleges or universities.

      The award amount ranges between $300 and $2,500 per academic year, depending on the needs of the student.

    Alabama Student Grant Program

    • The Alabama Student Grant Program is available to Alabama students by the Alabama state government. To qualify, students must be financially needy, full-time students at one of the 14 eligible Alabama schools. The maximum award amount is $1,200 per academic year.

    ASU Presidential Scholarship

    • The ASU Presidential Scholarship is offered by Alabama State University to incoming freshman and college transfer students. To qualify, students must have a grade point average of at least 3.76 on a 4.0 scale. Incoming freshman must have a minimum ACT score of 28 and transfer students must have have completed at least 24 semester hours at an accredited college. The award amount is full tuition and fees plus $1,200 for incidentals.

    National Alumni Association Crimson Scholarship

    • The National Alumni Association Crimson Scholarship is offered to incoming freshman by the University of Alabama. The grant is merit-based--students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.8 on a 4.0 scale, an ACT score of at least 32 or an SAT score of 1400 or above, and rank in the top 2 percent of their graduating class. Students must also exhibit leadership qualities and be excellent at goal-setting.

      The value of the scholarship is full in-state tuition plus $1,500 per year for incidentals and $300 per year for books.
