Scholarships for Graduate Degrees in Education

If you are a college student who wants to pursue a graduate degree in Education there are grants and scholarships available to those who want to teach. While grants for graduate studies are much rarer than undergraduate scholarships, there are some available options for students looking for funds to cover tuition costs.
  1. Federal TEACH Grant Program

    • An exciting new program known as the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant was started in 2007 to provide those aspiring to be teachers with the opportunity to get the training needed. There are, however, some important guidelines to receiving the federal funds. Most notably, you must agree to teach in a high-need field in a public or private elementary or secondary school that serves low-income students for four years within an eight-year period. High-need fields can range from the sciences to special education. (See the Reference and Resource section for further information)

    Jack Kinnaman Scholarship

    • The National Education Association is the largest organization for teachers and their supporters in the nation. They provide a great deal of scholarships to a variety of people, from middle-school students to their teachers. The Jack Kinnaman scholarship is awarded to a student who "needs help completing a degree in education by offsetting a portion of their tuition." To apply, you can visit the NEA's website. School-Sponsored Scholarships

    • Often, universities provide scholarships for specific graduate studies. For example, Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) offers over 30 different scholarships for those pursuing a degree in education. Eligibility for each varies depending on your focus within the School of Education. Check with each of your prospective schools to find out and apply for scholarships specific to your program of study.
