List of Scholarships for Wisconsin High School Graduates

There are several scholarship programs available to Wisconsin residents and graduates of Wisconsin high schools, in addition to all the categorical and need-based forms of financial aid that any college student can apply for. Some of these are for students planning to enter a particular area of study, such as business or engineering majors, or students at particular schools.
  1. Academic Excellence Scholarships

    • The state of Wisconsin offers scholarships to graduating high school students throughout the state who go on to study at the University of Wisconsin, Wisconsin Technical College or another independent college or university within the state. The scholarships are given to the students with the highest grade-point average in their school, whether public or private. The number of scholarships given to each particular school depends on the size of the student body. The $2,250 per year scholarships are for tuition only and are funded in equal parts by the state of Wisconsin and the colleges where the students are enrolled.

    Archie C. Towle Aviation Scholarship

    • Not all scholarships are for going to college.

The Archie C. Towle Aviation Scholarship is given to a student living within 50 miles of the Wausau area to attend flight school. To qualify, she needs to show both the ability and interest in a career in aviation. The student must also be able to pass the Federal Aviation Administration's medical examination for flight training. The scholarship can also go to flight maintenance training, in which case no medical exam is needed. The deadline for applying is the last business day in February. Scholarship applications are available in the guidance offices of any high school; at community airports in Marathon County, Merrill, Tomahawk, Antigo, Wittenberg-Birnamwood, Stevens Point and Wisconsin Rapids; and from the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin (www.cfoncw.org/grants/scholarships.cfm).

    More Wausau Scholarships

    • The Ralph Tinker Memorial Scholarship is given to students from two Wausau high schools--Wausau East and Wausau West. It goes to graduating seniors who demonstrate both a financial need and the potential for success. Students can plan to study any subject and attend any accredited college or university. They make their applications through their high school.

The Peter & Carol Tomasi Scholarship is for the graduating senior at Wausau East high School with the highest SAT score in his class and is not limited to any particular subject or school, as long as it is an accredited college or university. The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin administers the scholarship and gets the name of the student with the highest SAT score from the school's guidance counselors.
