The Horatio Alger Association provides scholarship awards of $10,500 in 2010 to graduating high school seniors in selected states, including Louisiana, who plan to enroll in an accredited college or university in their state. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement as well as a critical financial need. Students whose families have a gross adjusted income of less than $50,000 may apply, although exceptions may be made for students with a higher family income who have overcome significant personal obstacles.

The Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) awards scholarships to Louisiana college students. The program administers the TOPS Opportunity Award, the TOPS Performance Award and the TOPS Honors Award. The program pays the average cost of Louisiana tuition for recipients and selected students may also be eligible to receive a monthly stipend. Eligibility for each award is determined by grade point average, SAT or ACT scores and the college or university at which they plan to enroll.

The Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants offers scholarship awards to accounting students who demonstrate academic excellence. Applicants must be enrolled in their fifth semester or higher of high school and possess a minimum 2.5 GPA. Students must also be Louisiana residents. The number and amount of scholarships awarded varies based on funding.

The Rockefeller State Wildlife Scholarship is awarded to students who are completing degrees in forestry or wildlife and marine sciences. The program is open to graduating high school seniors and undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled at accredited colleges and universities in Louisiana. The maximum award amount is $7,000 in 2010 and students who fail to maintain the minimum GPA requirements, or do not complete the program, must repay any monies they receive.

The Baton Rouge Area Foundation offers 18 scholarship programs to students enrolled in degree programs at accredited Louisiana colleges and universities. Scholarships are available at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels and applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria for each award. The amount of the awards ranges from $500 to $8,000in 2010.
