The Department of Homeland Security offers a scholarship for students in their second year of college. Qualified applicants must be a U.S. citizen with a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher and a major in certain science, technology, engineering or mathematics fields. A full list of acceptable research areas is available on the Department of Homeland Security website. The scholarship pays tuition and fees for two academic years, as well as a $1,000 monthly stipend during the academic year. Scholarship recipients are required to complete a 10-week, off-campus internship at a Department of Homeland Security facility. The internship includes a $5,000 stipend. Recipients also are required to complete a one-year, full-time service requirement in a field relevant to one of the Department of Homeland Security's research areas. This requirement can be fulfilled through paid employment and must be fulfilled within two years of graduation.

The Hispanic College Fund awards a variety of scholarships ranging from $500 to $10,000, depending on the scholarship program and student's financial need. Scholarships are awarded in such areas as business, health care, hospitality, science, technology, engineering, math, social sciences and humanities. Applications are organized by major. A complete list of qualifying majors is available on the Hispanic College Fund's website. To qualify, students must be Hispanic/Latino, or have at least one Hispanic/Latino parent or grandparent. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and be a United States citizen or legal permanent resident. Scholarships can be used to pay for tuition, textbooks, room and board, and other school-related costs.

The Overseas Press Club Foundation awards 12 scholarships each year in the amount of $2,000. Applications are available to undergraduate students enrolled at American colleges and universities who have the goal of becoming foreign correspondents. In addition to a cash award, the Overseas Press Club Scholarship includes a membership in the Overseas Press Club, and travel and living expenses for interns working in overseas news bureaus. Applications require a resume, a cover letter and a 500-word essay. The essay must be in the form of a news analysis, a story or a traditional essay focusing on an area of the world the applicant is interested in. According to the website, essays must show a "strong understanding of, or interest in, global economic issues such as trade, finance, emerging markets, immigration or environmental impacts." The most successful applications demonstrate superior reporting skills and an understanding of, and passion for, the subject.
