Retraining grants are provided by the government and private institutions for people either out of work or who are underemployed. The government offers its grants through the U.S. Department of Labor and private companies and gives them to veterans, health-care workers, dancers, professionals, factory workers, academic professionals and skilled laborers. The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) offers career training grants at a variety of colleges, universities and technology schools. Other private organizations that offer retraining grants include the Ben & Jerry's Foundation, the Cara Program and Goodwill Industries International.
