Easy Scholarships for High School Juniors

With the rising costs of a college education, it's a good idea to get a jump start on finding the funds to pay for your college experience. Even though juniors have two years left of high school before heading off to college, there are several easy scholarships available for high school juniors.
  1. The Fountainhead Essay Contest

    • The Fountainhead Essay Contest Scholarship is sponsored by the Ayn Rand Institute. Every year applicants must read "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand and write a response essay based on one of three essay prompts posted on the official Ayn Ran Institute website. Juniors and seniors in high school are eligible to apply. The essay must be between 800 and 1600 words, and show an understanding of the philosophical meaning of The Fountainhead. Applicants must submit identifying information and the essay online at the Ayn Ran Institute website.

    Signet Classics Scholarship

    • The Signet Classics Scholarship is offered by Penguin Publishers to high school juniors and seniors. Every year one book with five different essay topics is posted on the Penguin website. For example, the book for the 14th annual Signet Classics Scholarship is "The War of the Worlds" by H.G Wells. Students read the book and then write an essay on one of the topics. The entries are then judged by a panel and five winners receive $1000 each. Students must write a cover letter, provide a name and phone number and other identifying information and also provide four copies of the essay. The essays, cover letter and identifying information must be submitted by an English teacher on behalf of the student.
