The Signet Classics Scholarship is offered by Penguin Publishers to high school juniors and seniors. Every year one book with five different essay topics is posted on the Penguin website. For example, the book for the 14th annual Signet Classics Scholarship is "The War of the Worlds" by H.G Wells. Students read the book and then write an essay on one of the topics. The entries are then judged by a panel and five winners receive $1000 each. Students must write a cover letter, provide a name and phone number and other identifying information and also provide four copies of the essay. The essays, cover letter and identifying information must be submitted by an English teacher on behalf of the student.
