Catholic Theology Scholarships

Students interested in studying Catholicism and religious thought can apply to enroll in a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree program in theology or divinity at a four-year college or university. Such a degree program typically provides students with an extensive overview in theological perspectives, and the history of Christianity and Catholicism. Scholarships for students studying Catholic theology, as well as for Catholic students interested in attending university, are made available through associations, church organizations and individual colleges.
  1. Catholic Theological Union General Scholarship Fund

    • The Catholic Theological Union in Chicago is one of the largest Roman Catholic schools of theology and ministry in the United States. The school offers degree programs for students studying theology, pastoral studies, ministry, biblical ministry, Hispanic ministry and more. It offers scholarships through its General Scholarship Fund for male and female students as well as for international diocesan priests. Some of these scholarships include the McAuley Scholarship for aspiring female ministers, the Wheeler Scholarship Fund for lay students studying ministry, and the World Mission Fund for international students studying ministry, among others. The scholarships cover 25-40 percent of a student's tuition.

    Italian Catholic Federation Scholarships

    • High school graduates who are both of Italian descent and are members of the Catholic Church can apply for scholarships from the Italian Catholic Federation. Students who are graduates of Catholic or traditional public high schools in Arizona, California, Illinois and Nevada may apply. Each year, the federation awards 200 applicants with $400 toward their first year's tuition. Students who have won the first year's award can apply for additional scholarships each year in the amounts of $500, $600 and $1,000. Students can apply for the Italian Catholic Federation scholarships by contacting the organization or their future school's financial aid office.

    Catholic Aid Association Scholarships

    • The Catholic Aid Association is a Catholic organization serving 74,000 members in the Midwestern states of Iowa, Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota. The association offers scholarships to its members who are graduating from high school and who are interested in attending a four-year university. The Catholic Aid Association awards different scholarship amounts each year, depending upon its annual budget. Students can apply to earn $300 if they plan to attend a non-Catholic university and $500 if they plan to study at a Catholic university, college or technical school.
