The Knights of Columbus was formed in 1882 with the idea of giving mutual aid and assistance to its members while promoting fellowship among its members and families through educational, charitable, religious, relief efforts and social welfare. One of the ways in which they give back to their members is through scholarships. One of the scholarships they offer annually is the John W. McDevitt Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to students entering their first year of undergraduate education within a Catholic college or university and are typically renewed for a total of four years. Members must be in good standing with the Knights of Columbus organization but also may be the wife, widow or child of a current or deceased member. Scholarships are available to U.S. students as well as those in Canada. Scholarship applications are available after October 1 and can be requested through an online form or by mail. For U.S. undergraduate students the deadline for application is March 1, whereas for Canadian students it is May 1.

The Catholic Aid Association offers a scholarship program for students entering their first or second year of post-high school education either in a degree-oriented program or a certification program. In order to apply for any scholarship amount from the Catholic Aid Association, the applicant must be a member of Catholic Aid for a minimum of two years before the application can be processed. The Catholic Aid Association provides its members with insurance and financial products while giving its members a piece of mind by giving back to Catholic parishes, schools and the communities of their members. Students who attend or plan to attend a Catholic college or university are awarded a $500 scholarship, while those attending a non-Catholic institution receive $300. Students are able to complete the application form online or submit it through the mail. The application period for the scholarship closes for the fall semester in February of that year; however, those interested can check back in November for application information for the next year.

The Italian Catholic Federation sponsors an annual scholarship program for public as well as Catholic school students in California, Arizona, Nevada and Illinois. Applicants must meet some criteria such as belonging to the Catholic faith and having Italian heritage (however, students whose parents are non-Italian may apply if parents or guardians belong to the federation). It is also required that the applicant maintain a grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale as well as demonstrate financial need. Scholarships are given out for the different levels of the applicant's education. Freshman scholarships are awarded in the amount of $400, second-year students receive $500, third-year students receive $600 and fourth-year students receive $1,000. Those who are awarded the first-year scholarship are automatically eligible to receive the advanced scholarship application (advanced years), which is sent directly to the applicants home. The federation also has scholarships available for students in their third and fourth years of college who are focusing on Italian studies as their major.
