Women's Golf Scholarships

Golf is an exciting sport, requiring great skill and focus. Over the last few years, female golfers like Michelle Wie and Annika Sorenstam have attracted followings of devoted fans and encouraged new generations of players to pick up a club. A young woman who wishes to improve her game and play golf at the university level has scholarships available to support her dream and help her become a future champion in the sport.
  1. Marilynn Smith Scholarship

    • The Marilynn Smith Scholarship provides $5,000 to young women golfers.

      The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) awards five young women with the Marilynn Smith Scholarship each year. The awards, worth $5,000 apiece, are presented to female high school students who play golf and plan to attend and play for an accredited university. Applicants must have at least a 3.2 GPA and have participated in 50% or more of their high school team's golf games and events.

    Nancy Dooling Scholarship

    • Players in need of new golf equipment can apply for the Nancy Dooling Scholarship to help with their expenses.

      Young women golfers between the ages of 13 and 18 can apply for the Nancy Dooling Scholarship, which is meant "help support improvement of their golf game," according to the Executive Women's Golf Association of San Antonio. Multiple awards are presented each year and the funds can be used to purchase new golf equipment, lessons, travel costs for games and tournaments and other expenses related to the sport. The award is given based on athletic and scholarly accomplishments, community service and "the role that the young women expect golf to play in their lives," according to the organization.

    Women’s Western Golf Foundation Scholarship

    • The Women’s Western Golf Foundation Scholarship provides winners with $2,000 for their college education.

      To help young women play golf in college, the Women’s Western Golf Foundation offers a $2,000 scholarship which can be renewed for four years of undergraduate education. The award is given based on financial need, quality of personal character and involvement with playing golf. Applicants must be seniors in high school, planning to attend an accredited university and must file a FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

    Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship

    • Minority women golfers can apply for the Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship.

      Minority female golfers can apply for the Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship, offered through the LPGA. One scholarship, worth $1,250, is awarded each year and applicants must be planning to attend an accredited university in the US where they will play for the school golf team. Applicants must be able to prove financial need and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
