The Ford Motor Company provides scholarship money to college students and college-bound high school seniors through the Heart Behind The Oval Scholarship Contest. The first-place scholarship is $3,000, the second-place scholarship is $2,000, and the third-place scholarship is $1,000. To enter the contest, a student must compose an essay explaining "what their heart is behind" when it comes to making a difference in their community. All essays must be written in English, and must be between 1,000 and 2,000 characters long. The annual deadline for entry is April 9. The Ford Motor Company and the Hispanic College Fund have partnered to provide scholarship assistance to financially needy students through the Ford Blue Oval Scholars Program. These scholarships are awarded in amounts ranging from $500 to $5,000. In order to be eligible, a student must be of Hispanic origin, must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Puerto Rico, must demonstrate financial need, and must be a full-time undergraduate student. In addition to undergraduates, students pursuing a Masters in Business Administration are also eligible for the Ford Blue Oval Scholars Program. The annual deadline for application is February 23. The Ford Motor Company has partnered with the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Education Foundation to provide two scholarships for engineering and manufacturing majors. The SME Ford PAS Scholarship is open to students who complete a Ford Partnership for Advanced Studies at their high school, or completed a Ford PAS weekend or summer program. The Henry Ford Academy Scholarship is available to graduating seniors of the Henry Ford Academy, with preference given to those students who intend to attend the University of Michigan in Dearborn. In order to be eligible for these scholarships, a student must be pursuing a bachelor's or associate's degree in engineering or technology, and must have a grade point average of at least 3.0. These scholarships may be renewed annually as long as students continue to meet the minimum GPA requirements. The annual deadline for application is February 1.
