Newton International Fellowships are made available to researchers in a wide variety of fields who wish to travel to the United Kingdom to undertake a serious research project. While in the UK, these grants provide fellows with £24,000 every year for living expenses, £8,000 for research expenses, and £2,000 to cover the cost of travel. In addition, these generous fellowships award a stipend of £6,000 per year for up to ten years to fellows who remain in research after they return to their home country. To be eligible, candidates must already have a research partner in the UK at the time of application. Applications are accepted from all over the world. Boren Fellowships support U.S. postgraduate students who wish to travel to a different area of the world to gain proficiency in a different language. The maximum level of support provided is $30,000 over a period of 24 months, but programs as short as 12 weeks may be supported. International programs of study may be supported for a maximum of 12 months. In exchange for receipt of support, a student must commit to working for the federal government for 1-2 years. The Marshall Scholarship supports United States citizens who wish to study in the United Kingdom. Tuition, the cost of living, and travel to and from the UK are provided for under this fellowship. To be eligible, a student must be enrolling in a program of study at the graduate level, and must have a minimum grade point average of at least 3.7. Marshall Scholarships are awarded for a period of one or two years, and students may be able to apply for a third year of support if necessary.
