NAFSA, the Association of International Educators, offers the Travel Grants for Overseas Educational Advisers program. When funding is available, overseas educational advisers may apply for $2,000 grants to fund international travel to the year's NAFSA Annual Conference & Expo. Previous grants have funded travel to locations including: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Arequipa, Peru; Sydney, Australia; Tbilisi, Georgia; and Quito, Ecuador. Grant applicants must work as education advisers at EducationUSA-certified educational advising centers and must not have funding from specific government bodies, including the U.S. Department of State. Advisers making presentations at the conference receive preference as do those NAFSA members who have leadership positions and/or live in countries or regions underrepresented in the organization. Applications for advisers with a subscription to the NAFSA Overseas Educational Advising Professional Network also receive preference. To be eligible for the grant program, professionals must spend at least half of their working time advising international students about study in the United States.

Specific grants include the John E. Bowman Travel Grants, $1,000 awards for the cost of travel, geared toward students with an interest in studying abroad in less-popular locations. Eligible students include those who study at an institution that is a CIEE academic consortium member and those who are CIEE members themselves. Applicants must also be planning to study at a CIEE study center in the destination country. Eligible countries include nontraditional destinations in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. CIEE accepts applications twice per year. Complete applications should include a completed application form and financial aid form, along with a 500-word essay.

The Parkinson's Disease Foundation (PDF) offers the International Research Grants Program (IRGP) to encourage researchers to carry out innovative Parkinson's disease research. The project especially targets those research proposals considered "high risk," which are those that would have little hope of receiving funding. Eligibility is not dependent on nationality, but successful applicants must have a doctorate-level degree. The program prefers scientists early in their careers, although postdoctoral students are not eligible. Successful applicants may be funded by only one PDF initiative per year, and their project may not be funded by any grants other than the PDF grant during the year for which the PDF grant funds the project. Applicants should apply online. Complete applications include the applicant's information, contact information for the applicant's institution and grant information including a project summary and funding amount request. The program awards $75,000 for one year of support.
