Contact the school or agency that originally issued your GED. For example, if you took GED classes at a high school or a community center that issues GEDs, contact that organization first. It may be able to replace the GED certificate directly or it will refer you to an agency that can.
Browse the Department of Education website to determine how to best contact the school or agency where you received your GED certificate if you don't have the contact information readily available. In the References section below, you will find a link to the Department of Education's state-by-state contact information for state education offices.
(see reference 1)
Receive and fill out a GED certificate replacement form provided by the organization that issued the GED to you. Some places will have an online site where you can download and print out the replacement request form. Other states will mail you a form to complete.
Be sure to include your full name (as it appeared on your original GED certificate), current mailing address and date of birth on the form.
Include a check for the amount of the processing fee charged for a replacement GED. Some states may not charge a fee; this fee will be listed on the order form paperwork. Mail the completed form and check to the address provided on the order form.
Depending on the state and the amount of order forms currently in processing, you may need to wait a few weeks for your replacement certificate to arrive in the mail.
