How to Get Your GED Certificate That You Lost From Another State

Can't find your GED certificate? It's frustrating when you can't locate important documents when you need them, especially when you live far away from the state where the document originated. Each state has its own policies and processes for issuing or reissuing these certificates. Fortunately, requesting copies or duplicates of a GED completion certificate is an easy process in most states.

Instructions

    • 1

Recall the location or the state and year in which you took the GED exam. If you can't remember, call some of your friends or family members. Trace back old resumes and job related documents to find hints on where you took and passed the GED exam.

Go to the US Department of Education website and search "GED." Most of the state education departments process requests for duplicate GED certificates. Some states require you to mail in the application and a fee for this process. The application can usually be downloaded online. Some states have already adopted electronic applications.

The application is generally straight-forward. You'll need to put in your personal information and sometimes the year you took the exam. It takes about 10 to 14 days to process the application.
