How to Administer a GED in Alabama

GED tests are an important step in continuing your education. If you never finished high school, the GED offers you the opportunity to go on to college as the credential is considered the same as a high school diploma. Administering GED testing is a very important process as it holds such high implications for the students, as well as the universities accepting these applicants. Making sure the process runs smoothly, so the results are not in question, is important to the state of Alabama.

      Set a time and place to administer the test. All GED tests in the state of Alabama are given at a designated testing center. You may not give the test other places unless there has been a specialized request by the student due to a learning impairment. Even these tests are usually given at the testing sites.

      Verify the identity of the students sitting for the test. Every person who takes the GED must have a US Social Security number or a US Individual Taxpayer Identification Number to use for the record keeping, as well as identity verification. Students must also present a government-issued identification card with a photo, legal name, birth date, address and signature. An Alabama Community College System ID with a current picture is also acceptable.

      Administer the GED test in order, following the posted time allotments for each section. Language Arts Part 1 for 75 minutes, Language Arts Part 2 for 45 minutes, Social Studies for 70 minutes, Science for 80 minutes, Language Arts Reading for 65 minutes and Mathematics for 90 minutes.

      Collect the testing paperwork after each section is complete. You must retrieve both the answer sheets and testing booklets.

      Turn in all the paperwork at the completion of the test to the front office of the testing center. The office will file the tests with the state of Alabama.
