Write an outline of the book to use as a reference when creating the pages. List all of the content as it should appear on each page, along with ideas for supporting pictures or graphics. Indicate what should appear on the question side and answer side of each card. Identify the category, such as alphabet, sounds (phonemes), two- and three-letter clusters, and sound combinations (diphthongs).
Cut the cardboard into rectangles about 3 inches by 5 inches or larger. Punch two holes in one end of each card about half an inch from the top and sides.
Create the cards and ensure the holes are at the top. Use the appropriate color cards for the categories. Use the same position for the words and pictures on every card, always putting the words at the bottom, for example. Clip out appropriate pictures and graphics from the magazines to support each card and glue them on the card.
Organize the cards with the holes on top and questions facing in the same direction. Group by categories, going from simple to complex. Insert an O-ring through each hole.
